West Ham United transfer news as Terem Moffi bid turned down in Monday twist

West Ham United have had their bid of around £17.7m for Terem Moffi turned down by Ligue 1 outfit Lorient, according to ex-editor-in-chief for Football 365, Ignazio Genuardi.

Nice and Southampton are also on the offensive to sign the talented Nigerian forward and will battle the Hammers for his coveted signature, with a boost on the way.

Genuardi confessed that West Ham United are “way off the mark” with Lorient likely to hike the striker’s price up much higher than the Irons’ initial bid.

“After being rejected by En-Nesyri, West Ham makes the effort to attract the Super Eagle. This is the new prio, an offer around €20m [£17.7m] having been refused,” revealed Genuardi on his personal Twitter account.

“For now, the Hammers are way off the mark, with Hakes likely to play competition to drive up prices, but a boost is expected. While Nice and Southampton have also gone on the offensive, a sale abroad seems privileged.”

West Ham

Priced out.

Unless Moffi forces a move to the London Stadium or chooses West Ham United over the other club’s interested, it will be tough for the Hammers to get this one over the line.

It’s unlikely that the club will want to spend too much on another forward after heavily splashing out on Gianluca Scamacca in the summer transfer window.

Combine that with the several other transfers made in the summer months and it was expected that January would be a quiet month for David Moyes’ side.

Nevertheless, a potential relegation battle will make clubs do strange things in the transfer market and this could potentially make the Hammers spend more on Moffi than they’d like.

It’s unclear whether or not the Nigerian is worth more than the £20m West Ham United have bid for him, but he’s certainly a decent talent worth exploring a deal for.

With Scamacca out of form and Antonio wishing to move away, there is definitely room in the squad for a new poacher to join its ranks.
