West Ham United transfer news as Maxwel Cornet exit ready to be sanctioned as Crystal Palace eye Deadline Day swoop

West Ham could now be ready to sanction Maxwel Cornet’s deadline-day exit from the London Stadium, according to the Daily Mail.

The UK news outlet shared (31 January) that Crystal Palace have enquired about making a last-gasp swoop for the Ivorian winger before Thursday’s deadline who has also been the subject of interest from Nottingham Forest too.

The Hammers are now ready to allow him to leave the club with The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons reporting (31 January) that Cornet wishes to leave the club in search of more first-team football.

The Ivorian could not be set to follow Conor Coventry and Thilo Kehrer out the exit door with a couple more possible exits planned for Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals.

Unfortunate

Injuries have played a massive part in Cornet’s downfall in East London but his lack of minutes will be a personal concern for him given he is currently in his prime years and he is clearly out in the cold under Moyes.

Since making the switch from Burnley to join up with David Moyes’ side for a fee of £17.5million (Sky Sports News, 6 August), he has managed just 31 appearances in West Ham colours, scoring once and providing six assists in that time.

The 27-year-old appeared to be on his way out of East London in the summer transfer window but stayed put as a move to Everton fell through due to concerns over his injury record.

And it looked as if Cornet had certainly brought a transformation in his East London career when he bagged a stunning strike against Sheffield United (21 January).

At this moment in time, the £17.5million paid to bring Cornet to the club appears to have been a waste, and a fresh start might be exactly what the forward needs to rediscover his form.

West Ham

For David Moyes and the Hammers, if the Scot does not plan on utilising Cornet, having handed him just two Premier League appearances all season, then it might make sense to get the player off the books.

With West Ham ready to sanction his exit, it’s now a matter of whether Forest or Crystal Palace can seal his move away from the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, a double exit update has been provided on two players at the club.
