West Ham United transfer news as Ibrahim Osman deal collapses after development

A deal for Ibrahim Osman has collapsed overnight at West Ham with Nordsjaelland asking for too much, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports journalist reported [29 January] that the Hammers’ deal for the 19-year-old winger was now off overnight due to the demands of Nordsjaelland.

It is understood that, as per The Irish Sun, West Ham had a £16million bid rejected by the Danish side. Nordsjaelland are holding out for £18million for their teenage sensation, with the deal including bonuses and a sell-on clause.

Not worth it

Considering the experience and talent already at London Stadium, it is difficult to splash the cash on such a deal when the player is relatively unknown and unchallenged so far.

The 19-year-old has made 39 appearances for his current club since February 2023, registering four goals and five assists in 39 senior appearances.

Having come through the same academy as Mohammed Kudus, the Ghanaian’s move could have been a seamless one to West Ham, with a role model already present at the club. However, with Nordsjaelland asking for too much, it is no longer worth pursuing.

Of course, David Moyes has issues with the current squad, especially with Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma rumoured to leave before the transfer window closes on 1 February. There are other options, though, and diving into the club’s pockets to bring in an unknown talent such as Osman has its risks.

Osman is certainly a prospect to keep tabs on as he develops. He may even emerge as one of the rising stars over the next couple of seasons, so West Ham may prefer to reach the summer transfer window and rethink the transfer.

In other West Ham news, bids have been made for a South American Hammers player, with a last-gasp January exit on the cards.
