The East London club have made one signing in the summer transfer window so far, bringing in midfielder Edson Alvarez from Ajax.

Waiting game

With everything agreed, it is now seemingly a waiting game for West Ham manager David Moyes and all associated with the club with regards to the Maguire transfer.

The Hammers kicked off their new Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Saturday (12 August), with Moyes opting for a central defensive duo of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd.

They were the preferred duo for the majority of last season when they and fellow centre-back Angelo Ogbonna were all fit, so it remains to be seen what the plan will be for Maguire when he does finally arrive.

Moyes could simply throw Maguire straight into the mix, with either Zouma or Aguerd dropping to the bench. Or the latter could be placed at left-back, allowing Maguire and Zouma to operate together centrally.

Another option is to deploy all three together in a back five, with Vladimir Coufal and Emerson potentially operating at right wing-back and left wing-back respectively.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have missed a multi-million deadline to complete the signing of a new striker this summer.
