West Ham United transfer news as club eye loan deal for Kalvin Phillips

West Ham United have made a loan approach for Manchester City maestro Kalvin Phillips who has had a “nightmare” start to the season, according to The Sun.

The Hammers aren’t the only club interested in Phillips’ services for the remainder of the campaign with Everton and Leeds also chasing the England international star.

Nevertheless, the report claims that Manchester City are not interested in letting Phillips leave the Etihad Stadium and will rebuff any offers for him.

“New Everton chief Dyche saw Phillips as the ideal midfield general to spearhead their survival fight, and hoped his lack of game time at the Etihad meant a deal could be struck,” as quoted by the Sun. (31 January)

“Leeds also asked about taking him back to Elland Road for the rest of the season, as did West Ham, who lost out to City when he moved in August.”

Never happening.

As great as it would be to sign Phillips this transfer story just isn’t happening and it’s hard to see City letting Phillips leave the club anytime soon.

Despite him rarely playing at the Etihad, it’s likely when Phillips returns to full fitness that he’ll play some part in Pep Guardiola’s side over the course of the campaign.

And if for whatever reason he was to be put up for sale by City, it’s more than likely that his first choice would be to move back to Leeds United.

If West Ham United are to do any business on deadline day, it’s looking like it will be in the defensive positions of the squad.

With Craig Dawson leaving the club earlier in the window to join Wolves, there is now a gap in the team to fill and this is something Moyes could look to do.

The 11 pm deadline is fast approaching, so time will tell whether or not West Ham make any moves or choose to stand still.
