West Ham United transfer news as Chelsea and Crystal Palace in race for Ivan Fresneda

West Ham, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Barcelona have all been keen on signing Real Valladolid defender Ivan Fresneda, according to AS.

The Spanish media outlet reported on Friday (25 August) that a meeting has been scheduled on the same day in London to discuss the next steps.

The 18-year-old Spanish right-back does appear likely to leave this summer given a queue of clubs lining up to secure his services.

Ben Johnson exit?

If the Hammers are contemplating making a move for someone who primarily plays as a right-back, there could be an exit on the cards.

Ben Johnson has been linked with a move away from the London Stadium this summer and the chances of his exit are higher now if Fresneda ends up joining.

The Hammers need to sign a striker before they look at other areas of the pitch so it’s baffling to see them engaging in meetings for a right-back.

The deal to sign Mohammed Kudus from Ajax appears to be done and dusted and it now remains to be seen who comes in next.

It would be impressive if they manage to sign him ahead of their London rivals but if Chelsea really want him, they can offer crazy amounts of money.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
