West Ham United transfer news as bid update emerges on Manchester United defender Harry Maguire

West Ham have made a fresh bid to secure the services of Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, according to Jacob Steinberg.

The Guardian journalist claims on Monday (7 August) that a £30million offer has been sent in for the 30-year-old England international.

Maguire was stripped of the captaincy at Old Trafford and has fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

Via Twitter, Steinberg wrote, “West Ham have made an improved bid of £30m for Harry Maguire. Waiting to hear back from Manchester United.”

Accepted?

Manchester United cannot really expect more for a player who’s deteriorated over the past two years.

He was once viewed as one of the best defenders in the Premier League which is why they paid around £80million to sign him.

They even handed him the captain’s armband and there was a feeling among many at the club that they’ve secured a Virgil van Dijk-esque signing.

That clearly did not happen and he’s now worth less than half of what he was signed for back in 2019.

This by no means represents the player he is and it’s just down to a lack of confidence which West Ham can help regain.

It’ll be difficult but in a less toxic environment, the chances of him thriving are higher and hopefully, this bid gets accepted.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
