West Ham United transfer news as bid mooted for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi

West Ham are planning a bid for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi who’s also on the radar of Lens, according to Mohamed Toubache-Ter.

The former L’Equipe journalist reported on Friday (18 August) that the French side are unlikely to be able to offer what the Hamemrs do for the 20-year-old striker.

The French striker appears to be on his way out this summer and West Ham are keen on signing a new striker.

Toubache-Ter wrote on Twitter, “West Ham will accelerate this weekend for Wahi. Complex case because of several intermediaries + Mendes who can smash everything as he pleases. If Lens speeds up & makes a serious offer… it may be possible but I don’t see Lens putting what West Ham plans to put.”

Get it done

The Hammers cannot let this deal run on until the final week of the window as it’s only going to make matters more complicated for them.

They have done this in the past and have regretted it as there have been clubs that have beaten them to targets.

Wahi is someone who’s even been on Chelsea’s radar and one cannot rule them making a late swoop in the market for the striker.

West Ham

Lens may not match West Ham’s financial muscle but there are clubs in Europe that can easily do that so it’s important this deal is done quickly.

Wahi will be an important signing for the Hammers and hopefully, this deal is over the line in the coming days.

There is money to be spent post the sales of Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca so hopefully, they move quickly.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
