West Ham United transfer news as AS Roma chief Tiago Pinto increases pressure to sign Gianluca Scamacca

AS Roma chief Tiago Pinto is increasing the pressure to sign West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian outlet reports (28 July), that the former Sassuolo forward has given priority to the Giallorossi but is also open to another Serie A club should the Roma move fail, with Inter Milan also in the chase for his signature.

The Italy international has also been linked with a loan move [Alfredo Pedulla, 19 July] to Roma this summer, as he seeks a return to his home country, but it is also believed that West Ham aren’t ruling out keeping him in East London.

According to the Calciomercato report (28 July), Roma chief Pinto is pushing for a loan with an obligation to buy but the Hammers are currently stalling.

Saga continues

It certainly seems as if the Scamacca saga will continue for a long while yet, with the Hammers stalling on a decision to allow the £35.5m forward to leave the London Stadium.

Scamacca’s desire is abundantly clear after what he’s done in previous weeks, giving an interview with the Italian press about his desire to join Roma while also liking a picture involving Jose Mourinho’s side on Instagram.

Also, he removed the writing “West Ham player” from his Instagram profile which all shows just how much he is desperate to depart East London this summer.

Scamacca is a superb talent and a player with a raft of potential to thrive in the future, for which the £35m will have turned out to be an absolute bargain should he succeed, and if there is any chance of him getting a second chance at the club, the Hammers must certainly consider it.

For now, though, it looks incredibly unlikely that he will be a West Ham United player once their season kicks off against Bournemouth on 12 August. The ball is in the Hammers’ court.

In other West Ham news, David Moyes and Tim Steidten may already be stuck in a transfer rift.
