West Ham United transfer news as Alessandro Buongiorno update emerges
West Ham United are one of several Premier League clubs who could sign Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno in the January transfer window, according to Roma Metropolitan.
The Italian outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (20 December) that both Aston Villa and Chelsea are interested in the 24-year-old defender, but the Hammers and Tottenham Hotspur could match Torino’s asking price.
Buongiorno has plenty of suitors within Serie A, with the likes of Roma, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus all admirers of the centre-back, but the Italian giants have been told to “watch out” for the Irons during the January window.

Torino are expected to ask for upwards of £25.9million [€30 Million] for the 24-year-old and West Ham and the other Premier League club’s financial standing is expected to give them the upper hand in negotiations during the transfer window.
More defensive options
West Ham United’s priority in the transfer window has to be a new centre-forward. David Moyes doesn’t have many striking options in his squad capable of finding the net regularly and solving that problem will be top of the agenda when January rolls around.
At the heart of defence, the Irons are reasonably well stocked with the likes of Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Konstantinos Mavropanos all already in place at the London Stadium, so it feels unlikely that the Hammers would fork out £25 million on another centre-back.

Buongiorno has impressed for Torino this season, scoring twice from defence in their opening 13 matches of the Serie A season as they sit ninth in the league. Torino have only conceded 16 times in their opening 16 games, less than the likes of AC Milan and Roma.
If Moyes decides that he does need more options at the back for the second half of the season, Buongiorno would be an excellent addition for the Irons, but it seems likely he will look to add to his ranks in other areas first.
It could be hard for West Ham to beat the likes of Chelsea, Spurs and Aston Villa to the Italian’s signature considering the spending power of some of these clubs in recent transfer windows.
