West Ham United transfer news as Ajax reject new offer for Mohammed Kudus – David Ornstein

West Ham United have seen a bid for Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus rejected as it falls short of their valuation, according to David Ornstein.

According to The Athletic journalist (19 August), the Hammers’ proposal was below what their Dutch counterparts would consider to part with Kudus and the offer got turned down overnight.

It is unclear where the situation leads from here but Ajax are desperate to keep the Ghanaian international but Kudus, formerly a target of Brighton wants to leave as West Ham work to seal their third signing of the summer.

After Brighton saw a bid of around £35m accepted by Ajax a couple of weeks ago, this latest news from David Ornstein certainly suggests that the Hammers’ new bid for the Ghanaian international was certainly very little.

For such a talented and prestigious midfielder, only the Irons know why they submitted such an offer but whether it was to test the waters or not, Ajax aren’t known to sell on the cheap, especially a player they want to keep.

West Ham

However, if West Ham United are serious about securing their priority midfield target this summer, then they’ve simply got to match that £35m offer or more because Kudus is worth every penny.

Kudus over the past two campaigns has emerged as one of Europe’s finest young midfielders due to his performances both at club level and on the international stage, starring for Ghana in December’s World Cup in Qatar.

The 23-year-old recorded 25 goal involvements in 42 appearances. His rank within the best 3% outside of Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for non-penalty goals per 90, non-penalty xG per 90, and successful take-ons per 90 demonstrate that he is ready to elevate his career by moving to a competitive division, and the Premier League certainly represents the perfect step up for him.

That is a prized asset the Hammers would do incredibly well to possess. Bid again.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have entered the race to sign this incredibly gifted Portuguese attacker.
