West Ham United transfer news: £40m update emerges over Arsenal exit for Eddie Nketiah

Arsenal will make Eddie Nketiah available for transfer this summer amid interest from West Ham United, according to Graeme Bailey.

The journalist reported via HITC (16 April) that Mikel Arteta’s side will be willing to part ways with the 24-year-old striker at the end of the season, but the Gunners will be looking to secure £40million for his signature.

David Moyes’ side are understood to be interested in the England international, alongside Fulham and Crystal Palace, but there has been no indication of whether any club would be willing to pay such a sizeable fee.

The Hammers have been reliant on both Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen to lead the line so far this season and are believed to be eager to sign a new number nine.

Will West Ham United spend £40million to sign Eddie Nketiah in the summer transfer window?

It has been clear for some time now that West Ham need to sign a new number nine to lighten the load on Bowen and Antonio’s shoulders, but £40million feels like a lot of money to spend for someone of Nketiha’s calibre.

The 24-year-old has scored five goals in just 10 Premier League starts this term, but he has never been a regular at the Emirates throughout his career and it remains to be seen whether he can be a consistent source of goals.

When he is at his best, he is undoubtedly worth that sort of fee, but he has only hit double figures once in his career. For the Hammers this summer, there could well be better deals available further afield than the Premier League.

With a few weeks to go before the end of the season, there is too much to be decided at the London Stadium for West Ham to consider spending that sort of fee. It seems unlikely the Irons will foot that bill when they don’t even know if Moyes will be there next year.

If Arsenal are willing to lower their asking price, there could be a deal to be struck. At £40million however, the Hammers should walk away from this deal.
