Transfer embargo stops Lennon Peake leaving West Ham United to join Cardiff City

Lennon Peake has been stopped from joining Cardiff City from West Ham United due to a transfer embargo, according to Wales Online.

The 20-year-old had been on trial with the Bluebirds, and it’s understood he made a positive impression in the Welsh capital.

Wales Online confessed that Cardiff are set to “miss out” on Peake with the player’s representatives now looking to move their talent elsewhere.

“Cardiff are set to miss out on a move for West Ham United youngster Lennon Peake due to their ongoing transfer embargo,” as quoted by Wales Online.

“WalesOnline revealed last month that the 20-year-old had been on trial with the Bluebirds, and it’s understood he made a positive impression during his short stint, netting in an under-21s clash with Charlton Athletic. Peake also spent time training with the first team, where again he caught the eye, and sources in the English capital claim City were open to making his stay official this January.

“The terms of that potential move are unclear, with Peake still contracted to the Premier League side. But in any case, Cardiff now look set to miss out, with the player’s representatives understood to already be looking elsewhere.”

Who is Peake?

Peake was once claimed to be one of the Hammers’ brightest young talents but it seems injuries and constant spells on the sidelines have plagued his career.

He missed two full seasons with the Hammers youth team and only made a comeback to the pitch this season but is now looking for game time elsewhere.

It’s a shame that the youngster is missing out on a move to Cardiff due to their transfer embargo and it’s, unfortunately, one of the unfair events of the modern game. It is not uncommon for football clubs to face transfer embargoes, which are restrictions on their ability to sign new players.

Transfer embargoes can be imposed by governing bodies such as FIFA or national football associations as a disciplinary measure, or they may be self-imposed by clubs as a way to manage their finances.

Peake will likely now look for another club in Cardiff to play his football, fingers are crossed he can get his career back on track.
