West Ham United: Tony Cascarino questions ‘strange’ David Moyes live on talkSPORT

Tony Cascarino has questioned why David Moyes is still at West Ham after the amount of backlash he has received from fans in recent weeks, suggesting he could walk away from the role.

The former Millwall and Chelsea striker insisted that given the length of time Moyes has been in the game, it doesn’t make sense to put up with such heavy backlash.

He also suggested that the reactions of the West Ham support towards the boss have been overly severe after they turned on him given what he has achieved with the club.

Cascarino was speaking live on talkSPORT as he shared: “If you look at the goals they scored last season and compare it to this season, they’re scoring on a more regular basis.

“The fans though, have turned. I find it strange from a David Moyes perspective, it’s his decision what he does at West Ham, but he’s so long in the tooth that I just feel… Do you really need that? You’ve been through the mill as a manager, I just feel, do you need to keep going through that?

“He’s done enough at West Ham to not get this treatment so severely.”

Will David Moyes be sacked by West Ham?

It was previously suggested that the boss would be given the upcoming run of games to save his job at the London Stadium following the 6-0 defeat to Arsenal, but a 2-0 loss away at Middlesbrough made for the worst possible start.

Cascarino’s suggestion that Moyes could walk away from the role might be the best outcome for all involved. The fans would get what they have been calling for, the club wouldn’t have to make the huge call of sacking him, and he could leave on his own terms.

It has been reported that various big-name managers are lining up to take over from Moyes should he leave either now or when his contract expires at the end of the current season, perhaps providing further incentive for the board to pull the trigger.

Moyes probably does deserve more respect from sections of the support for what he has achieved at West Ham boss, but it can also be true that now is the best time for both parties to part ways.
