West Ham United: Tomas Soucek announcement ‘Bad News’ for Inter Milan as terms agreed at London Stadium

Tomas Soucek’s contract announcement at West Ham United is “bad news” for Inter Milan chief Giuseppe Marotta, according to CalcioMercato.

The Italian news outlet (1 January) shares that the Serie A champions identified the Czech international as their “ideal” transfer target for the January with his contract up in the summer of 2024.

However, now their transfer plans for the winter window has been dealt a “blow” after West Ham United announced Soucek’s contract extension until 2027 on New Year’s Day.

Great news

Every passing week that Soucek’s contract wasn’t dealt with or announced at the London Stadium certainly left a lot of room for a number of rumours to fly around regarding a possible exit.

Inter Milan were indeed the reported biggest suitors for his signature (FC Inter News, 12 October) with his contract coming to a close.

West Ham

However, the Hammers have certainly poured cold water over those reports and have moved particularly impressively to secure his future. However, there was also the possibility that Soucek was always going to stay, that it just needed official confirmation.

This is a hugely positive development for West Ham as Soucek has committed himself to the club for the next three years.

The midfielder wasn’t quite at his best in the opening few games of the season, but he has once again emerged as an extremely important player for David Moyes over the past couple of months.

The Czech international may not be the most pleasing player on the eye for some West Ham United fans or neutrals but what he offers Moyes, he performs to an absolute tee.

With Moyes now possibly staying beyond this summer, it was important they secured Soucek’s future too. Great news.
