West Ham United told to make Julen Lopetegui exit call, talkSPORT host blown away

Adam Catterall has been left blown away by what one West Ham United fan said about Julen Lopetegui ahead of the clash with Everton.

The Hammers welcome the Toffees to the London Stadium on Saturday (9 November) as they look to bounce back from their disappointing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest last time out.

With pressure mounting on Lopetegui and reports suggesting his position will be reviewed if the Irons lose again [The Guardian, 8 November], talkSPORT host Catterall has been left stunned after one fan said Lopetegui has “got to go”.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (8 November, 23:07) the supporter said: “I think if we don’t get a result tomorrow, get rid of him.

“He’s got to go.”

Catterall was stunned by the statement responding: “Wow. Early in the season, you’d have him out straight away?”

Will West Ham sack Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium amid exit speculation?

Pressure is mounting quickly on Lopetegui and while sources close to the club deny that a change is imminent at the London Stadium [Jim White, 7 November], the former Real Madrid boss will know that he needs a win against the Toffees.

If the Hammers were to lose against Sean Dyche’s side, not only would they head into the international break on a sour note, but they would also potentially be plunged into the relegation battle at the bottom of the Premier League.

There is enough quality in this side to avoid the drop and over the course of a 38-game season, the Irons would undoubtedly climb the table. The question will be whether or not Lopetegui’s position is tenable if that happens.

David Sullivan and the team around him at the London Stadium have been reluctant to sack managers in the past, but they have also been willing to pull the trigger when relegation has become a genuine possibility.

Lopetegui needs a win quickly to get this season back on track, otherwise, he will run the risk of receiving his marching orders before he has even got going in East London.
