West Ham United to register Kalvin Phillips signing as Manchester City approve documents – Fabrizio Romano

Kalvin Phillips will complete his loan move from Manchester City to West Ham on Thursday (25 January), according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist provided an update via his official X account (25 January) revealing that Phillips will sign his contract as a West Ham player before the end of the day.

Manchester City “have already approved documents” that will allow the 28-year-old to make his switch to the London Stadium official.

David Moyes’ side have had an option to make the transfer permanent inserted into the loan deal.

Huge

West Ham supporters waking up around the country or already on their way to work this morning will be absolutely buzzing at this early update from Romano.

Although Phillips has not been a regular for Pep Guardiola’s side since his switch from Leeds United, playing just four times in the Premier League this season, his time at Elland Road and playing internationally for England suggests there is still a player of real quality in there.

It is a low-risk move for the Hammers that has no downside. Should the midfielder perform, West Ham can keep him permanently, and should he not then they will be able to refuse any option to buy the player.

Considering Lucas Paqueta was recently ruled out with a long-term injury, Moyes was in need of reinforcements in the middle of the park, and this is certainly a high-quality reinforcement with plenty of experience playing at the top level.

In other West Ham news, the club have held talks to sign an attacker this month.
