West Ham United to receive six-figure windfall if they win v Olympiacos

West Ham will receive a cash windfall of £600,000 if they beat Olympiacos in their Europa League group stage clash on 26 October, according to Claret & Hugh.

The West Ham news outlet reported that the money, which is awarded for every victory in the Europa League, has seen the Hammers earn £1.2million so far, with a win against Olympiacos taking that tally to £1.8million.

The report also shared that teams can earn close to £20million in prize money if they win all of their group games en route to winning the entire competition.

A huge financial incentive

The money earned per win in European competitions is a huge incentive for clubs to put out stronger teams in search of those victories and will prove to be a huge benefit to any club that feels it would be capable of achieving success across the whole tournament.

West Ham certainly have to consider themselves in that bracket after last season’s Europa Conference League victory, as well as the two wins from their opening two games so far.

The trip to Greece to face Olympiacos will be another challenge for the Hammers, but they will be confident given the manner in which they dispatched a Freiburg side who were expected to be their toughest competition in the group stage.

While David Moyes and his players will undoubtedly be focused on the effect of a possible victory on the morale of the squad and progress in the competition, the higher-ups at West Ham will be seeing the benefit of the financial incentive UEFA competitions provide.

In other West Ham news, one Hammers player has shared his disappointment at the recent defeat.
