West Ham United to prioritise Jesse Lingard transfer over Sassuolo raid

West Ham United are said to be prioritising a move for free agent Jesse Lingard over Giacomo Raspadori of Sassuolo, according to The Express.

The Irons have been in contact with the Serie A side over a potential move for striker Gianluca Scamacca and have made an offer of £40million but the Italians want a further £5million to allow him to leave the club.

During those club-to-club conversations, Raspadori’s name cropped up as a potential target for West Ham in what could end up as a double move.

But Express journalist Ryan Taylor (13 July, 8:17am) believes that David Moyes would prefer to sign Lingard, who spent six months on loan at the London Stadium during the 2020-21 season.

The cost of a transfer could be the main reason for this although Sassuolo may be reluctant to let their two star attackers leave in the same transfer window.

Double delight

It seems like the main focus for West Ham and Moyes right now are a striker and an attacking midfielder which could well tie in nicely with this latest report.

Sassuolo understandably would prefer not to lose both of their players at the same time but they could pocket a fortune if they allow us to make a double approach to sign them.

It might also mean we could get ourselves a small discount on one or both of them too compared to what we may have got in separate deals.

The duo will also know each other’s game inside out which should make the switch to the Premier League a much smoother process and they both should outlive Lingard’s career.

The England international is 29 years of age already and only has perhaps two years at his best before he will be replaced by a new and exciting attacker.
