West Ham United to Crystal Palace update emerges after Maxwel Cornet loan terms agreed in principle on Deadline Day

Maxwel Cornet is set to stay at West Ham past the close of the transfer window despite terms being agreed in principle for him to leave, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported via Twitter on 1 February that an agreement had been struck with Crystal Palace to take the Ivorian to Selhurst Park on loan.

But the former Burnley wide man is instead in line to remain at the London Stadium through the deadline as things stand.

Two other Hammers attackers are on the way out on the final day of the window with Pablo Fornals set for Real Betis and Said Benrahma to Lyon.

The update said: “TEAMtalk understands Maxwel Cornet is currently in line to STAY at West Ham despite an agreement in principle over a loan deal being struck with Crystal Palace.”

Too light

It will likely be a big frustration for Roy Hodgson at Palace, and potentially also for Cornet himself, but this outcome is perhaps not surprising if two others are leaving.

Since it is proving so difficult to get incoming deals done during the January window it would surely leave David Moyes too light if three players left without somebody coming in the opposite direction.

Since Cornet has been named on the bench for the Premier League game against Bournemouth at the London Stadium it looks impossible for a deal to go through.

It would be the second window in a row where departures from the London Stadium have been complicated by a game being scheduled in the way.

After just two Premier League appearances this term, from a total of 10 outings the 27-year-old may have liked the opportunity for more game time in South London, but if Fornals and Benrahma go then he could still get it at West Ham.

There is in theory time after the game ends for something to be done with Palace, but it is highly unlikely that a medical could be completed and the paperwork done, especially if Cornet actually were to feature in the hours before the deadline.
