West Ham United to announce Flynn Downes transfer tonight – ExWHUEmployee
West Ham United are set to announce their third summer signing of the transfer window tonight (7 July), according to ExWHUEmployee.
English midfielder Flynn Downes is expected to be the man who is unveiled as a Hammer as ExWHUEmployee first tweeted a series of emojis hinting that the deal had been fully agreed.
Following that cryptic message, he then replied to his previous tweet saying that tonight is the night that the 23-year-old would be announced as a West Ham player.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth reported earlier on Thursday that the Swansea City midfielder was having the second part of his medical and that the whole transfer was accelerating at a rapid rate, via his personal Twitter account.
He will become David Moyes’ third signing of the summer window after bringing Nayef Aguerd in from Stade Rennes to shore up the defence and making Alphonse Areola’s loan move a permanent agreement from Paris Saint-Germain.
One more
Central midfield was an area where we had some very big gaps to fill after Mark Noble and Alex Kral both left the club for different reasons (retirement and loan expiration respectively).
Moyes has gone and sorted one of those issues in signing Downes but that still only leaves three natural central midfielders in the squad alongside Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

As we saw last season, that really isn’t enough unless both starting workhorses go the entire season without injury suspension or the need for a rest.
We could call upon Conor Coventry to sit on the bench when necessary but he only has one good half of a season to his name and that was in League One with Milton Keynes Dons last season.
He probably needs one more good loan, preferably in the Championship, before he’s ready and the rest of the academy is some way away too so we need to go back into the transfer market and go big on one more midfield ace.
