West Ham United target Thilo Kehrer next to leave PSG – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham United may be closing in on a new signing as Paris Saint-Germain are ready to sell Thilo Kehrer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old made 34 appearances for the Parisiens last season but new manager Christophe Galtier is not intending on keeping him around for much longer.

Striker Arnaud Kalimuendo is on the brink of a move to Stade Rennes and Romano believes that Kehrer will be next to leave with the Irons and Sevilla in a two-horse race to sign him.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth reported on 10 August that a new and improved bid had been submitted by West Ham in an attempt to rush through a move before Sunday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

But no number was put on that second bid with the French champions who are now holding out to get £16.8million for the sale of the German international [Florian Plettenburg].

Hurry up

West Ham are starting to run out of time to get this, or any deal for that matter, over the line before their first away trip of the new Premier League season.

The Hammers may have to not only ensure all the documents are signed but also have the player registered by midday on Friday if they want Kehrer to make his debut at the City Ground.

If they can’t get that to happen, then Ben Johnson is going to have to fill in as a makeshift centre-half again but at least this time he won’t have to cope with Erling Haaland.

David Moyes at least has his targets locked in so the board can go about making these deals happen on terms they can agree with but it can’t wait forever.

West Ham could do with a fast start before the European season kicks off properly in the group stages but this defensive nightmare is threatening to derail it all before it’s even got going.
