West Ham United managerial target slammed for disrespecting David Moyes, ‘bad taste’
Scott Minto has hit out at rumoured West Ham managerial candidate Ruben Amorim for what he claims was a publicity stunt in “bad taste”.
Amorim was pictured flying into London earlier this week amid reports that he was due to hold talks with United over replacing David Moyes.
However, it later emerged that talks had not advanced beyond their initial stage and the Sporting CP coach now appears to be out of the running.
The Portuguese has also been touted as a contender to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, which Minto thinks was behind the West Ham talks.
“What I want to say about Ruben Amorim, I wonder whether it was a publicity stunt for him to show Liverpool…” he said on talkSPORT’s Premier League All Access podcast [26 April, 29m 27s].
“I found it in bad taste it was out there for David Moyes. Unless Moyes has actually been told he’s not going to be manager next season, and the club have asked if it’s okay they can start looking for options for next season.
“I didn’t like that, I’ll be honest with you. Whether you like Moyes or not, he deserves respect – that was in poor taste. If that was a way for Amorim to get Liverpool on board, it didn’t work.”
Ruben Amorim using West Ham for Liverpool job?
Minto was not alone in wondering if Amorim was using the West Ham links as a bargaining chip of sorts amid rumoured interest from Liverpool.
If that was the case, it has now badly backfired because Arne Slot appears to be the strong frontrunner to take over from Jurgen Klopp.
Amorim is relatively unknown on these shores, but a quick look at his CV shows that he would be a good option at London Stadium.
Given the initial talks did not appear to go too well, you have to wonder exactly what happened in that meeting – if it ever did take place.

With a £15million buyout clause in his Sporting contract [Sky Sports News], West Ham were never likely to pay that anyway.
Minto has a very good point in that regard, but it is hard to agree with the other part of his complaint regarding United holding talks with managers.
Ultimately, Moyes is sitting on an unsigned contract with less than a month of the season to go. The Irons are being proactive and that cannot be a bad thing – as long as there are not more timewasters out there such as Amorim.
