West Ham United talks with Julen Lopetegui in place for ‘months’ ahead of David Moyes exit
West Ham have been in talks with Julen Lopetegui about the possibility of taking over from David Moyes for “months” as rumours continue to swirl, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Spanish news outlet reported on 24 April that Lopetegui remained in England after his exit from Wolves last summer to perfect the language as he eyes a return to the Premier League.
It is also said that there has been interest from both Germany and Italy, where he has been tipped to take over at the San Siro as AC Milan boss this summer.
Could Julen Lopetegui take over from David Moyes at West Ham?
The Spaniard has been one of the most heavily linked bosses with the job at the London Stadium with rumours flying about who will take over – despite Moyes’ exit not having been confirmed by anybody at the club.
Lopetegui presents an interesting option at the London Stadium having had success with Sevilla before his untimely exit from Real Madrid, with his stock having dropped harshly since then despite the good work he did at Wolves.
Ruben Amorim emerged as the initial front-runner for the position after talks with David Sullivan were held at the owner’s house, but the pair are set to have been split on the direction of the club and Amorim’s alleged inexperience.

Alongside the likes of Amorim and Lopetegui, both Graham Potter and Gary O’Neill have been linked with the role, with Moyes’ contract set to run out in the summer amid speculation surrounding his long-term future after another poor run of form.
In other West Ham news, a decision has been made already on another manager linked to the job.
