West Ham United table £13m transfer bid to sign Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior

West Ham have reportedly submitted a £13m bid to sign Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior in the January transfer window.

According to Milan Live [29 November], the Hammers are keen to make the 22-year-old their first signing after the window opens.

While the Serie A side are not particularly keen on selling him, they’re open to letting him leave if a bid in the region of £17.3million is made.

West Ham

Senseless

It was understood that West Ham have opened talks with Spezia over signing the centre-back and at 22, he could be seen as an option for the future.

However, to pay this kind of money for someone who’s not going to strengthen the first team, is baffling, to say the least.

Given the lack of signings in other areas of the pitch, this will be throwing money to fix a problem that does not even exist.

Even if Kiwior does strengthen the first eleven, it will be hard to explain to the board why they’ve signed three first-team centre-backs over two windows only to sign another one in January.

We hope that the Hammers do not pursue this further and go in with another bid as it’ll be a stupid way to use funds that can be spent on an attacking midfielder or right-back.

Ben Johnson is undoubtedly getting better each year, but it will be nice to give him competition while a new attacking midfielder could see Lucas Paqueta playing in his customary midfield position.
