West Ham United switch may ‘interest’ Kieran McKenna amid David Moyes exit speculation

West Ham United’s soon-to-be vacant managerial position “might interest” Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, according to Alan Brazil.

It is becoming increasingly likely that David Moyes will depart the London Stadium come the end of the season the expiry of his current contract, with Tim Steidten already assessing potential successors such as Rubem Amorim.

Tractor Boys boss McKenna has been mooted as a contender by some reports [Ed Aarons, 13 February] and while talkSPORT host Brazil doesn’t want him to leave, he thinks the Hammers’ financial power could be tempting.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday (1 May, 6:28) he said: “Troy just mentioned West Ham, that might interest him but it’s difficult because of the team spirit. I’m a great believer that whoever comes up, Ipswich, Leicester and whoever, it’s going to be tough.

“For the three teams coming up, it’s so, so tough to try and stay in there and will that be in the back of Kieran’s mind that he thinks I can slip in here to a top half side with money to spend? Could you blame him if he was to go?”

Will David Moyes leave West Ham United and could Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna replace him?

McKenna certainly ticks a lot of the boxes of what West Ham fans want to see in a new manager. Supporters have been pining for a younger, more attack-minded manager who will get more out of their forward talent.

The likes of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus have impressed under Moyes, but there is a general feeling around fans that a different manager could take the Hammers to the next level if they were braver in possession.

David Moyes will manage West Ham United for the final time against Manchester City on May 19.

Whether or not Moyes departs the London Stadium remains to be seen, but it doesn’t seem likely that the 61-year-old will be handed a new deal, therefore plans have to be made for his potential successor ahead of the summer.

Hopefully, the Irons will get their top candidate if and when they decide to relieve the Scotsman of his duties. If McKenna is on that list, he won’t come cheap, but he could be the right man to take West Ham to the next level.
