West Ham United suffer blow in hunt to replace David Moyes amid Gary O’Neil update
West Ham have been dealt a blow in their bid to replace David Moyes with Wolves boss Gary O’Neil after they moved to offer him a new deal, according to talkSPORT.
The Hammers are reportedly on the lookout for potential options to replace Moyes at the end of the season, with his contract set to expire in June.
Wolves boss O’Neil has been mooted as a potential target after his performance this season despite joining the club on the eve of the season, but he is now set to be handed a new deal at Molineux which would take him off the shortlist at the London Stadium.
West Ham United need to make a decision quickly
When clubs dither in the transfer market, they usually end up missing out on a target because other teams swoop or are quicker off the mark.
This is a similar situation right now with managers and with so many top clubs on the hunt for a new man to lead their team next season, the Hammers have to act quickly if they want to get in their top target.
O’Neil is unlikely to have been the top target, but an alternative option is now seemingly off the table because the club can’t make a decision on the future of David Moyes.
Obviously he is still doing well in Europe and the club sit in a good position in the Premier League, but the fact he hasn’t signed a new deal yet suggests that someone isn’t entirely convinced about this project continuing.
At some point those in charge need to make a decision themselves, regardless of what the current situation is, and the sooner they do that the better for everyone involved.
