West Ham United: Stuart Pearce waxes lyrical over ‘incredible’ David Moyes

Before David Moyes arrived at West Ham United, relegation looked far more likely to arrive than European football but that’s all changed.

The London Stadium has been revolutionised from a sombre place of defeat to a home where we can beat anybody on our day and we often do thanks to the magnificent Scot.

Stuart Pearce was one of Moyes’ coaches at Rush Green until last month and he has been waxing lyrical about his former boss on talkSPORT.

“It was, for me, fantastic,” Pearce said. “You’ve got to bear in mind that six months before I came into the club, Dave went back in and they were fighting a relegation battle.

“It’s not just these last two years but everything he’s done in turning the club from looking over their shoulder to have two campaigns as strong as they have has been incredible.

“It’s more than just the results, it’s the culture of the club. The togetherness of everyone from the chairman right the way down.”

Untouchable

Every word Peacre utters is the absolute truth and there is no doubting that very few, if any, managers in world football who could have overseen such a significant rise.

West Ham

Many clubs have done this kind of thing over many years or even decades but to go from relegation fodder to European challengers in basically 12 months is brilliant.

But the best part of it all is that we haven’t immediately slipped back to being a mid-table side after a season in the sun, we backed up that fifth-place finish with a seventh while also fighting in both domestic and continental competitions at the same time.

It’s still too early to be talking about lifetime contracts or statues outside the ground but there is no reason why Moyes can’t keep this club fighting among the best in the country and become a certified West Ham legend in the next few years.

In other West Ham news, one player the boss wants rid of is going to get his chance to shine on international duty as he tries to find a new club this summer.
