West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca to undergo knee surgery
West Ham have been dealt a major blow in their hopes for survival after David Moyes revealed Gianluca Scamacca needs knee surgery.
The Italian recovered from injury prior to the international break, but then picked up a knock while with his national team and hasn’t featured since.
Moyes revealed last week that he was hopeful Scamacca would avoid going under the knife and just miss a few weeks through rehabilitation, but ahead of the clash with Arsenal on Sunday (16 April) the boss revealed that wouldn’t be possible.

“Hopefully everyone is going to be okay,” he said during his pre-match press conference, as quoted by Football London.
“Gianluca Scamacca is due to have an operation on his knee tomorrow [Saturday, 15 April] night.”
Trouble
Scamacca was signed during the summer transfer window last year as he was supposed to be the answer to our striker problems and lack of goals.
He started the season well, but unfortunately he never really managed to get going and poor form, poor team performances and injuries have stopped his season from ever getting going.

West Ham have really struggled this season for goals, and it forced Moyes to sign Danny Ings in January but he has struggled to get going too.
With such big games to come, not having a source of goals available is a huge blow and means we will once again be relying on the inconsistent Michail Antonio and struggling Ings.
There is no timescale on how long Scamacca will be out injured for, but hopefully it won’t be too long and he can come back to fire us to safety and justify his massive price tag.
