West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca shares update from hospital bed following knee surgery
West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca has shared an update from the hospital following surgery on a knee injury in the last 24 hours.
The Italian had only just recovered from the injury before the recent international break, but then aggravated the issue while on duty for his country.
The surgery looks set to see the striker sidelined for the remainder of the campaign, with the Hammers currently involved in a relegation battle.

Taking to Instagram, Scamacca posted: “Surgery done, no doubt I’ll come back stronger than before.”
His club and his teammates Pablo Fornals, Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbonna all shared messages of support on the post.

Uncertain future
Scamacca has not featured very much in recent times due to his injury struggles, and was even then forced to watch on from the bench when fit given the presence of fellow forwards Danny Ings and Michail Antonio.
It is certainly not how Scamacca or West Ham fans wanted the striker’s debut season in England to go, with the Italian scoring just three Premier League goals.
He has also netted five goals in the Europa Conference League, but eight goals in 27 appearances in all competitions is not what David Moyes envisioned when he broke the bank to sign Scamacca.
The striker’s future in East London has been very unclear for some time, and given how he is likely to miss the rest of the campaign, there are now questions being asked if he has indeed played his last game for the club.
Despite his potential and previous scoring records at former clubs, many Hammers fans remain unconvinced that he is the man to lead their line for the foreseeable future.
He isn’t the first striker to be a flop at West Ham after arriving with high hopes, and he won’t be the last until the Hammers sort out their recruitment behind the scenes.
