West Ham United still ‘trying’ to make Amadou Onana transfer happen

West Ham United have not given up on signing Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana from Lille this summer, according to Claret and Hugh.

The 20-year-old burst his way into the Ligue 1’s side team over the 2021-22 season with his enormous height of six-foot, five-inches making him a menacing figure in the middle of the park.

The Irons had been giving it a good go to sign Onana before talk of interest cooled briefly but now West Ham appear to be back in the hunt to make the move.

A London Stadium source told Claret and Hugh, “Yes there is interest and we are trying” when addressed about the Belgian who made his Red Devils debut in 2022.

The Hammers’ current offer for Onana is roughly £33.5million but Lille could be holding out for even more with the 20-year-old contracted until 2026 having only signed for the French outfit last summer.

At nearly two metres tall, Onana would strike fear into the hearts of any midfielder who dare come up against him just to add to the bulk already at David Moyes’ disposal.

The boss himself has his heart set on a move for the Belgian but the two clubs need to come much closer to an agreement before that dream can start nearing reality.

All of a sudden, West Ham are becoming a side that could totally dominate the entire Premier League purely on set-pieces with Gianluca Scamacca another giant new signing this summer.

And that doesn’t take into account the likes of Craig Dawson, Kurt Zouma, Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek who have all proven to be very effective in the air for the Irons.

With Aaron Cresswell’s pinpoint left boot on hand to whip in delightful crosses all day long, West Ham will eventually score one of those chances in every game which puts a lot of pressure on the opponents to go on and score at least twice to take victory.
