West Ham United: Stephen Warnock wowed by what ‘delightful’ Vladimir Coufal did v Aston Villa
West Ham United defender Vladimir Coufal blew Stephen Warnock away with his “delightful” cross to assist Michail Antonio against Aston Villa.
David Moyes’ side picked up a valuable point against Unai Emery’s side at the London Stadium on Sunday (17 March) as Antonio’s first-half strike was cancelled out by Nicolo Zaniolo’s second-half effort.
While the Jamaican international’s header stole a majority of the plaudits, as he finally ended his Premier League goal drought, BBC Sport pundit Warnock was quick to praise Coufal for his cross which he labelled a “striker’s dream”.
Speaking on Match of the Day 2 (17 March, 14:35) he said: “It’s Coufal on the right-hand side and this Chappers is delightful. This is a striker’s dream. Antonio hasn’t scored in a long time, I think it was August when he last scored.
“That is a brilliant ball in and it invited him to get a great header and they deserved that in the first half West Ham.”
Will West Ham United qualify for the Europa League again this season?
Supporters will have been frustrated to see West Ham fail to claim all three points against Villa on Sunday as the Hammers had more than enough quality to extend their lead beyond Antonio’s first-half goal.
But for whatever reason, the Irons failed to capitalise on their dominance and allowed Emery’s side to get back into the contest as they took their foot off of the gas in the second half and dropped deeper and deeper towards their own goal.

However, had refereeing decisions gone the Irons’ way, they would have claimed all three points as Tomas Soucek’s hand was the only thing between Moyes and a crucial three points as they head into the March international break.
For Coufal however, his performance was incredibly bright and he posed a constant threat as he repeatedly put sensational balls into the box. Hopefully, he’ll manage to replicate this performance between now and the end of the season.
