West Ham United starlet Sonny Perkins set to leave upon contract expiry

West Ham United attacker Sonny Perkins is set to leave the club when his contract expires on Thursday (30 June), according to The Athletic.

The 18-year-old was a sensation for the Irons’ youth teams last season with four goals in four games for the Under-18s seeing him promoted to the Under-23s where he continued to find the net regularly.

Despite his fine performances on the pitch, West Ham and his agent have failed to come to an agreement over a new deal and with negotiations now at a standstill, he is set to exit Rush Green and leave the club.

There is plenty of Premier League interest in the English teenager with Tottenham Hotspur keen to keep him in the capital [The Guardian] while Aston Villa and Leeds United both want him to move up north [ExWHUEmployee].

Huge mistake

We obviously don’t know the ins and outs of the contract negotiations but if all of this palaver is over a tiny difference in money then we are being truly foolish not to make an exception in this instance.

10 goals in 20 games for the West Ham Under-23s might not be record-breaking by any stretch of the imagination but it was his first season at that level so he has still done remarkably well to score one goal in every two games on average.

But because we have been unable to remain in conversation with his agent, he is going to leave us on 30 June to go and join one of the clubs we are direct rivals with and that could be a recipe for disaster for us.

He’s clearly talented enough to play in the Premier League one day and whether it be Spurs, Villa or Leeds he ends up at, you just know he’s going to line up against us eventually and score that winning goal to prove that he was right all along.
