West Ham United star Tomas Soucek not wanted by Aston Villa amid transfer links

West Ham United star Tomas Soucek is not wanted by Aston Villa despite reports to the contrary, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Czech midfielder had been linked with a move to Birmingham due to his contract standoff, with The Sun reporting back in June that Villa were showing interest in him.

However, a Birmingham Mail Q&A on Monday morning (18 July) revealed that Villa are not interested in Soucek despite wanting a new midfielder.

The news will be welcomed by West Ham fans as Villa were seemingly most likely to make a move for Soucek given their current midfield situation.

David Moyes must now take this opportunity and sort out his contract situation to deter any other clubs that may be lurking, with his future still in doubt.

Get it done

Soucek is incredibly important to the way West Ham play, missing only three Premier League games across the last two seasons.

He has proven to be a surprisingly reliable source of goals despite playing in a deeper role, bagging 18 Premier League goals in claret and blue so far.

The midfielder also ranks among the best midfielders in the league for touches in the attacking penalty area as well as clearances and aerial duels won, showing his importance at both ends of the pitch (FBRef).

Villa not pursuing a deal for Soucek is a huge boost for The Hammers, but there are still other clubs reportedly circling.

The Sun reported that Villa were rivalling Newcastle United and Everton for his signature, so Moyes cannot rest on his laurels.

However, both clubs are focusing on other targets now with Everton chasing Morgan Gibbs-White and Newcastle pursuing Jack Harrison.

This gives Moyes an opening to restart contract negotiations with Soucek, but he must act quickly to secure his future.

West Ham United are now in for a very good summer, with Soucek staying and other targets now coming in.
