West Ham United star Konstantinos Mavropanos wows Greek media with what he did in Ireland win

Greek media have reacted to West Ham United star Konstantinos Mavropanos’ latest performance on the international stage.

The centre-back played the full 90 minutes and helped Greece keep a clean sheet in their 2-0 victory over Ireland in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday (13 October).

He was solid at the back and put his body on the line to deny Jack Taylor an equaliser in the 87th minute before Petros Mantalos doubled Greece’s lead in added time.

Mavropanos also got the crowd off their seats when he made a dribble, which Greek sports outlet SDNA (13 October) described as “magical”.

Novasports were also full of praise for the 26-year-old, writing: “Another fantastic game from Mavropanos, the international centre-back made a dribble that would be the envy of many midfielders in world football.”

Meanwhile, Sportime’s assessment of the West Ham star’s performance read: “[Odyesseas] Vlachodimos and Mavropanos were there whenever needed. In the 87th minute, it was Mavropanos who put his body in order to prevent Taylor from scoring.”

Konstantinos Mavropanos gives Julen Lopetegui selection headache

This was Mavropanos’ second impressive performance of the international break as he also shone in Greece’s 2-1 win against England on Thursday (10 October).

He has, therefore, staked a claim in West Ham’s starting lineup for their trip to Tottenham on Saturday (19 October).

The defender has made a case to play more after appearing in only one of the Irons’ last three games in all competitions.

It now remains to be seen if Lopetegui is convinced to start the Greek ahead of Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo.

Mavropanos started West Ham’s first five Premier League games of the season, but could only help them win one and saw the team concede nine goals during that period.

However, the former Arsenal man has efficiently used the international break to impress Lopetegui.

He will be determined to do the same if he is given a chance in the Hammers starting lineup upon returning.
