West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen tipped for new award after what he has done

Ian Ladyman has tipped Jarrod Bowen to be in with a chance of winning the Premier League Player of the Year award after his performances for West Ham this season.

The Daily Mail journalist named Bowen among a list with the likes of Declan Rice and Phil Foden, singling the Hammers man out for praise thanks to his impressive goal record.

Names like Fodena and Rice, among others, appear the clear frontrunners for the award with their clubs challenging for the title, but Bowen deserves recognition for his displays at the London Stadium.

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast [2 May], Ladyman shared: “My top five players of the season would be: Phil Foden number one, Cole Palmer number two, Odegaard number three, Declan Rice number four and Jarrod Bowen number five.

“Bowen has scored 16 Premier League goals in 32 starts. That’s a goal every other game, that’s decent for a guy who doesn’t always play through the middle.”

The Player of the Year award more often than not is awarded to the best player from whichever team wins the Premier League, however, honourable mentions need to be handed to the likes of Bowen who have no realistic shout at winning it despite their displays.

With 16 goals so far this season, he has stepped up when many haven’t at the London Stadium and proven to be one of the most consistent players in the league, putting himself in with a shot at going to the European Championships with England.

The team’s displays this season have drawn plenty of criticism, mainly aimed at David Moyes for his defensive style rather than the players, but Bowen’s importance to that side cannot be overstated given the difference with him involved.

Those displays have led to increasing discussions over Moyes’ future at the club and whether he will be handed a contract extension, with possible candidates to take over his role being considered by David Sullivan.
