West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen makes new England admission after Gareth Southgate exit

West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen has admitted “it doesn’t matter” to him whether or not the new England manager is English.

The Three Lions are on the lookout for a new permanent head coach following Gareth Southgate’s exit earlier this summer, with Lee Carsley currently in temporary charge of the squad.

Hammers skipper Bowen has been included in Carsley’s first squad for the September internationals having impressed so far in the Premier League and the attacker has offered his verdict on the race for the dugout.

As quoted by the Evening Standard on Thursday (5 September) he said: “Ultimately, if you bring success and good times as a manager, you’re doing well.

“So, for me, I don’t see [a foreign manager] as any different. I know there’s been loads of different [England] managers in the past.

“As a football fan, you want to see your team doing well. It doesn’t matter whether the manager’s English or whatever nationality, as long as your team’s playing well and you feel good about it.

“For me, that’s the most important thing.”

Who will be West Ham star Jarrod Bowen’s new England manager?

Ultimately, underneath everything, Bowen is an England fan and his comments reflect the thoughts of the majority of England supporters now that Southgate has departed following Euro 2024.

The best candidate for the job may not be English, but they shouldn’t be ruled out of the race just because of that otherwise the Three Lions could miss out on a manager who could finally bring some silverware to Wembley.

From a Hammers perspective, it would be nice if the new boss paid attention to player’s form as the likes of Bowen and arguably James Ward-Prowse last season haven’t always been called up to the squad when it has been deserved.

Although every West Ham supporter would like to see their captain in action for the Three Lions during the September international break, their biggest concern will be that he comes back to East London fit and ready to play in claret and blue.
