West Ham United star Gianluca Scamacca January transfer update emerges amid interest from Italy

West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca is reportedly set to stay at the London Stadium despite his tricky start to life in the Premier League and links to Italy.

According to Claret and Hugh [9 December], the Italy international has “struggled” to adapt to life in the English top flight since his move from Sassuolo.

However, it has been mooted that David Moyes could change his approach and play more attacking midfielders around the 23-year-old to bring the best out of him.

Needs help

It was never in doubt that Scamacca was going to stay at the London Stadium beyond the January transfer window.

Moyes and the Hammers hierarchy aren’t foolish to write off a player less than six months into his time at the club.

Players often take an entire season to adapt to the Premier League and it has not been smooth sailing for the Hammers this season.

Scamacca surely can do better but he cannot be faulted for Moyes constantly chopping and changing his eleven which has stopped players from getting used to playing with each other.

Hopefully, in January the club sign an attacking midfielder and if that means losing someone like Tomas Soucek, then it’s a risk worth taking.

A centre-back does seem to be the priority but that problem seems to be sorted with a medical also now scheduled.

Hopefully, they bring in a new number 10 which could see Lucas Paqueta playing deeper and that could see a more balanced West Ham approach to games.
