West Ham United star dubbed as ‘world class’ after what he did against Manchester United

Lukasz Fabianski pulled off a “world-class” save as West Ham beat Manchester United 2-1 on 27 October, Don Hutchison has said.

Speaking on commentary for Premier League Productions (27 October), Hutchison had high praise for the veteran stopper after he kept out Casemiro’s header late in the first half.

Fabianski and his backline were under the cosh for much of the first period at the London Stadium, but the Irons grew into the second half, taking the lead twice to win in controversial circumstances.

As shared by TBR Football (26 October), Hutchison said: “It’s a world-class save.

“It’s a wonderful ball in from Christian Eriksen, so difficult to defend against, and I think it comes off Lucas Paqueta – Fabianski does so well to get down to his left.”

Lukasz Fabiański justifies Julen Lopetegui decision for West Ham

Making his first Premier League start of the season after Alphonse Areola came under fire for his performance against Tottenham the week prior, Fabianski had to weather a storm in the first half.

Julen Lopetegui’s side were second best by a distance in the opening 45 minutes, with Fabianski called upon to spectacularly deny Casemiro in one of several saves to keep the game at 0-0.

Though Lopetegui’s three half-time substitutions – including the introduction of opening goalscorer Crysencio Summerville – will earn praise, his starting XI left a lot to be desired, aside from Fabianski.

The 39-year-old wasn’t expected to play a big part this season and had only started EFL Cup games, but justified doubts over Areola’s form have opened the door for the Polish veteran.

Fabianski took his opportunity with both hands in the Hammers’ controversial victory, and having kept Lopetegui’s side for much of the game, that spot between the sticks is now surely his to lose.
