West Ham United stance on Manchester United defender Harry Maguire clarified amid fresh development

West Ham are not understood to be making any “further moves” to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, according to Claret and Hugh.

The news outlet reporting on all things in and around the London Stadium claimed on Monday (28 August) that sources have said a move for the 30-year-old is not on the cards.

Having signed Konstantinos Mavropanos this summer, the club feels that they have plenty of centre-backs already.

The report reads, “Our key source explained to us this afternoon: ‘Man Utd have said Maguire staying there and we have enough centre-backs now’.”

Fair enough

It was always going to be either/or for West Ham this summer and having failed to sign Maguire, they succeeded in landing Mavropanos.

Manchester United do not appear to want Maguire to leave on loan and the Hammers aren’t even considering a move for him.

Perhaps his wage demands might be too high for their liking or the fact that he’s not that keen on moving to the London Stadium may have put David Moyes off.

It was clear from the start that Moyes saw him as the first-choice option but he’s moved on and Maguire seems set for an Old Trafford stay this summer.

Hopefully, Mavropanos has improved a great deal from his time spent at Arsenal as he was far from an impressive player in his last Premier League stint.

West Ham have shelled out a decent amount of money so they must be sure he’s worth it.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open to leaving his side this summer.
