West Ham United stance on Graham Potter shared after Chelsea sacking

West Ham are reportedly not looking to hire Graham Potter after his Chelsea sacking or former Liverpool and Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers either.

According to Claret and Hugh [4 April], the Hammers have made it clear that none of those two options are being looked at to replace David Moyes.

They also believe that Potter succeeded at Brighton because of their data-driven approach rather than his capabilities as a manager.

A highly-placed London Stadium source said, “Who says either is better than David Moyes, although I accept that Brendan is a very decent manager.

“Potter has been flattered by Brighton’s computer analysis which is run by the owner, and it is that system which buys all the players.”

Astounding

It’s such a strange thing to say about Potter as a lot of clubs have data-driven approaches but fail to get the results on the pitch.

Maybe the Chelsea job was too big for him and he wouldn’t get the time to rebuild as they wanted instant success and perhaps qualification into the Champions League.

However, at West Ham, there is an expectation that the next manager, if there is one, will be given the time to rebuild this team.

That’s because Declan Rice’s exit is going to leave a huge void in midfield and the money that comes in will then be used to strengthen other areas.

If Potter could take Brighton from relegation candidates to European contenders then he can surely do the same at West Ham.

Rodgers too is a good shout as he helped Swansea and Leicester both punch above their weight and also managed to secure an FA Cup.
