West Ham United sources say Gianluca Scamacca will stay with David Moyes despite transfer reports
Gianluca Scamacca’s widely-expected West Ham exit back to Italy this summer is not happening and he is set to be at the London Stadium next season, according to Paul Brown.
After the former Sassuolo man struggled to adapt to David Moyes’ side amid a difficult first season in London, where he scored just three Premier League goals and had his campaign ended early with injury, a widely-reported exit appeared on the cards.
Roma look to be making the greatest effort and are believed to be Scamacca’s preferred destination but Brown claims that is a narrative being pushed from Serie A and the manager still wants him in East London.

The former Daily Star journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s interesting because someone is briefing, in Italy, quite hard that Scamacca is going to leave this summer. Whether you believe that or not is open to question.
“My sources at West Ham tell me that there’s nothing in it. David Moyes still likes him, wants to work with him next year and that he is expected back, as normal, for pre-season.”
Surprise
If the two key characters involved, Scamacca and Moyes, are expecting to continue this relationship then perhaps there is hope for the £35.5million move to pay off after all.
It would fly in the face of months worth of reports from England and Italy that suggest the 24-year-old is unhappy at the club and doesn’t suit the Scot’s system so will return to Serie A.
An exit appeared inevitable in that context, and may still be on the cards, but unless wires have been badly crossed with Brown’s sources there may be scope for the situation to be redeemed yet in the Premier League.

It would certainly be a shame for the Italian international to be consigned to the West Ham transfer scrap heap already, and would surely lead to a major financial loss, even if it wouldn’t be hugely surprising.
So if there is scope for him to write off his first-year struggle and become a greater factor next term there will likely be plenty of fans who are glad to hear it.
Tiago Pinto from Roma is believed to have been in London last week to discuss incoming and outgoing deals, with Scamacca top of the agenda, and while the interest is surely real from their end, and maybe also Scamacca’s, perhaps it isn’t from Stratford.
