West Ham United source shares ‘partially true’ verdict over FFP fears in January
Suggestions that West Ham United need to sell players before buying them in January to meet financial fair play rules are “partially true”, according to Hammers News.
The outlet shared on its website on Tuesday (28 November) that a “top source” close to the Hammers admitted it was partly correct that David Moyes would have to sell players when the transfer window opens to comply with UEFA’s FFP rules.
West Ham also have “no slots” in their squad for new signings to enter following the additions made to the Irons’ ranks over the summer.

Therefore players will need to be moved on, not only to comply with financial fair play rules but also to create spaces in Moyes’ playing squad and raise much-needed money to help fund any incoming additions in the January window.
Selling fringe players
It seems clear that Moyes will be looking to trim his squad in January as the Hammers look to add a couple of quality additions to their side to help boost their hopes of success both in the Premier League and the Europa League after a strong start to the campaign.
West Ham need a new number nine as they failed to replace Gianluca Scamacca this summer after he was sold to Atalanta. Even with the Italian’s services at their disposal, the Irons looked short of goals and without him, it is an even more pressing issue.

But with financial fair play rules as strict as they are, the Hammers must ensure that they raise the funds to comply with UEFA’s rules to avoid any potential punishment. Teams in the Premier League will be especially keen to tread carefully in the coming months after witnessing Everton’s huge punishment.
The likes of Said Benrahma and Thilo Kehrer have both been linked with the exit door, the Algerian is reportedly admired by several Saudi Pro League clubs [The Sun, 25 November] while Kehrer is reportedly available for a fee of £13 million [Claret and Hugh, 23 November].
Selling these fringe players would help Moyes balance the financial fair play figures, free up some spaces in the playing squad and raise the much-needed funds to pay for a new striker.
