Martin Keown calls out referee mistake in West Ham United v Southampton
Match of the Day pundit Martin Keown has called out the poor refereeing mistakes in the West Ham United game against Southampton, claiming the Hammers should have had a penalty.
West Ham United were unlucky not to get the three points on the day with many refereeing decisions seeming to go against them in the 1-1 draw.
Keown admitted that he agreed with David Moyes’ anger at his team not getting a penalty for a “foul” on Tomas Soucek and that it was a clear incident.

“Well I’m in the David Moyes camp, it certainly should have been a penalty,” said Keown speaking on MOTD 2 (16 September).
“For me, it’s clear that one it’s a penalty, it has to be a foul, it’s ridiculous”

Bad luck.
Sometimes in the Premier League, you just have a day full of bad luck and this seemed to be the case for West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
Keown and Moyes are right to question the referee’s poor decisions, the foul of Soucek was clear and the Hammers should have gotten a penalty from it.
It would have been a handy chance to take, Moyes’s side failed to show any real threat all afternoon, only having four shots on target throughout the game.
Nevertheless, the penalty would have been the turning point in what was otherwise a tight fixture, sometimes you need these decisions to go your way.
A big trip to Anfield on Wednesday evening now awaits Moyes’s talented team and whatever result against Jurgen Klopp’s side they produce will be a good gauge of where they are at.
Something has to change in the Premier League, the current crop of officials are not good enough.
