Claret and Hugh share latest on West Ham United takeover rumours after Fabrizio Romano update
Talk of Sheikh Jassim potentially reviving his interest in a takeover at West Ham is “far from nailed on”, according to Claret & Hugh.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday (14 October) that Sheikh Jassim’s £5.7billion takeover of Manchester United had fallen through.
As BBC reporter Simon Stone told Stretford Paddock in July, the Qatari would likely look at other Premier League clubs if the deal collapsed.
West Ham were namechecked as a club of interest, leading to excitement among United fans that they could be in for a huge cash injection.
But Claret & Hugh reported on Sunday (15 October) that Sheikh Jassim falling out of the Man United running could be a bad thing for West Ham.
“The belief that West Ham would benefit from this situation might not hold true,” the report read. “To my thinking, it was far more likely that Sir Jim Ratcliffe was a potential buyer for West Ham.
“In which case the turn of events in Manchester may be bad news for The Hammers. The situation surrounding Sheikh Jassim is less clear. He might consider buying another Premier League club, but it’s far from nailed-on.
“It’s also worth noting that Tottenham and Liverpool are also available for purchase, so it’s uncertain whether he would pursue West Ham.”
Fingers crossed
There is no harm in some wishful thinking. If Sheikh Jassim is looking to invest in a Premier League club, who better than West Ham?
Liverpool may look more appealing but, much like with the Saudi takeover at Newcastle United, there is more potential at London Stadium.
Besides, the Hammers have won silverware more recently than both Liverpool and – as supporters will never get tired of reminding them – Tottenham.

Being taken over by someone of Sheikh Jassim’s wealth would almost certainly equate to consistent success – Manchester City being another example.
That is not to say the Irons are in a bad way right now – far from it – but it would be great to see extra millions pumped into the club.
There will unlikely be any further movement on the situation for a while, but this is certainly one to keep an eye on.
In other West Ham news, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Hammers’ interest in Harry Maguire.
