West Ham United set to win race to sign Jesse Lingard

West Ham United are set to win the race to sign Jesse Lingard ahead of Premier League competition according to The Daily Mail.

ESPN reported (6 July) that the former Manchester United man was ready to listen to offers from the MLS after recieving plenty of Premier League interest.

However it has been revealed by The Daily Mail on Wednesday 6 July that the Hammers “look set to win” the race for the 29-year-old.

It has been suggested that Lingard is set to turn down interest from other Premier League clubs and return to the London Stadium.

Still plenty left in this saga

Despite that Mail’s claims, it does feel that the Lingard saga is far from reaching its conclusion at present.

Lingard still harbours ambitions of the England World Cup squad and also is looking for the highest wages he can possibly attain.

If he was purely focussed on performing for a club side, he would’ve returned to the Hammers by now.

West Ham should seriously consider pulling out of a deal for the attacker, with the 29-year-old’s wage demands likely to take up a huge chunk of David Moyes’ budget.

Lingard has been sat on the bench for the majority of the 2021/22 season and quite frankly doesn’t deserve the wages that are being talked about.

Moyes would be far better off utilising his budget elsewhere to make sure he has enough depth and balance within his squad.

The West Ham boss clearly wants to reignite his relationship with the attacker after his excellent loan-spell in 2020, but it shouldn’t be the only transfer he focuses on in the coming weeks.
