West Ham United set to offer Jarrod Bowen 'bumper' new contract

West Ham United are planning to offer their star attacker Jarrod Bowen a “bumper” new deal that could “double his money”, The Mail+ reports.

The former Hull winger has bee in outstanding form this year, scoring 18 goals and adding 13 assists in all competitions, and has been nominated for Premier League Player of the Year.

Off the back of such impressive work he is apparently due for a major summer where he receives an England debut and a major new contract.

According to Mail+ the club “want the deal done” and manager David Moyes has given his “blessing” to get the 25-year-old to commit his future to the club.

There has been suggestions that Liverpool were interested in him before they bought Luis Diaz in January, but to fend off approaches in the summer the club apparently want to increase Bowen’s salary from around £60,000 per week to something close to top earner Kurt Zouma’s £125,000 weekly pay.

Following a brace against the prospective champions Manchester City at the London Stadium on Sunday (15 May), it is hard to argue that he has earned a new deal.

The club certainly need to show this sort of ambition if they are to build on what has still been an excellent season.

Although the crazy eight-year offer to Declan Rice seemed to have an element of show to it, the Irons other star man appears likely to be playing as captain in east London next year.

If he remains and Bowen is secured that is a strong base to build from when fleshing out a squad that has been operating at maximum capacity for so long.

A late push to overcome Manchester United and make it into the Europa League again would send the club into the summer on a wave of positivity.

Money being thrown around for the sake of it of course makes little sense, but rewarding those who have driven the club forward, and buying according to need ahead of next season, should have this squad in a good position to advance from the heights Moyes has already taken them to.

In other West Ham news, the Irons’ key man arrived on Twitter and send his first message to fans in the wake of his award nomination.
