West Ham United set for windfall after Sonny Perkins goal for Leeds United in FA Cup
West Ham could be set to earn some extra cash from Leeds after Sonny Perkins scored a last-minute equaliser against Cardiff in the FA Cup third-round.
The 18-year-old left the London Stadium in the summer to join Leeds as he went in search of more regular first-team football, and made his second appearance for the first-team as a late substitute on Sunday (8 January).
After finding themselves 2-0 down Leeds battled back to snatch a replay at the death when Perkins scored a goal in injury time, his first in senior football, and could have inadvertently earned his former club some extra money.
The transfer fee between the two clubs is set to be decided by a tribunal, and according to a report by Hammers.news, the fact he now has a first-team goal could see the amount increased.
Leeds are likely to make a case for compensation to be on the lower end of the scale, but West Ham can now argue about his ability as he is making an impact for the first-team despite his age, potentially earning them some extra cash.
Boost
It was an awful moment for West Ham when Perkins upped and left the club in the summer looking for more regular first-team football.
The pathway at the club has been set for a long time, and it was clear that West Ham and Moyes rated him as their scathing statement when they announced his exit showed.
But now that he’s firing for Leeds and their first-team, as well as England’s Under-19’s, it will surely soften the blow if we can get some extra money in the door for him to continue to develop talents at the club.
We should be arguing to get as much cash as possible for him considering how highly-rated he was and still is in the country, and that will definitely help to soften the blow of losing him.
So it won’t just be Leeds celebrating his late goal, the Hammers will be too, and the hope is we’ll be rewarded for it in the same way they were. With more cash.
