West Ham United set for five new transfers this summer – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham United could make up to five new signings this summer in a busy end to the transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer guru has shared that the Hammers are finally closing in on their first new addition, with Ajax star Edson Alvarez agreeing terms with the club.

It is up to West Ham and Ajax to get that one finalised, although it could kickstart a transfer blitz with numerous new players wanted at the London Stadium.

Writing for Caught Offside on Monday 07 August, Romano said: “Edson Alvarez has agreed personal terms and wants the move to West Ham – up to the Hammers and Ajax now.

“I think West Ham will be very busy with four or five signings potentially.”

Blitz.

Of course, this would be amazing to see with reinforcements needed badly.

Despite that though, it is hard not to get the feeling that this could be too little, too late ahead of the new Premier League season with major holes to be plugged.

It’s not only Declan Rice who has left, but Gianluca Scamacca and Nikola Vlasic are also moving on permanently, with the final third needing reinforcements.

This should break the ice through any tension that is still in the air between the boardroom, Tim Steidten and David Moyes though and open the door to more moves.

Five new players would be amazing across the next three weeks, although the club have left it very late to get their business done after selling Rice weeks ago now.

The priority now is getting Alvarez wrapped up and signed on with no hiccups and then moving on to the next target immediately with the first game of the season upon us.
