West Ham United senior sources issue Carlos Soler and Kurt Zouma transfer update
West Ham are not understood to be as close to securing a loan plus obligation to buy for PSG midfielder Carlos Soler, according to Sean Whetstone.
Via his X account on 26 August, the westhamfootball reporter claimed that along with Kurt Zouma another player needs to be offloaded to free up a squad space and bring in funds.
It’s also understood that both Nayef Aguerd and Danny Ings have turned down moves this week.
Whetstone wrote: “West Ham are NOT as close to a loan plus obligation to buy for Carlos Soler as Spanish would like us to believe.
“Senior club sources say that another West ham player must be offloaded in addition to Zouma to free up a squad place, wages and bring in more money.
“Although a deal has been agreed with PSG for a loan the obligation to buy fee is in fact €25m (£21m) rather than the €20m previously reported.
“Nayef Aguerd and Danny Ings have turned down moves this week.”
West Ham need quick developments on the transfers front
Offloading Aguerd, Ings and Zouma would help in financial management, reducing wage bills and potentially bringing in transfer fees that could be reinvested into the squad.
This financial flexibility is vital for the Hammers, especially if they aim to bolster their team with new talent beyond Soler.
These departures could free up squad spaces, allowing for the integration of new players or promoting youth from the academy, which is essential for squad rotation and depth, particularly in a season without European distractions.
Moreover, the departure of players like Ings and Aguerd, who have shown reluctance to move, might indicate a lack of commitment or satisfaction, which could affect team morale and performance.
Signing someone apart from Soler would also diversify the squad’s capabilities, addressing specific tactical needs and Julen Lopetegui will undoubtedly be pushing Tim Steidten to get things done.
It remains to be seen how things transpire but there’s certainly expected to be some movement in and around London Stadium in the next few days.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made another transfer bid which is close to the player’s valuation as another London Stadium move is on the cards.
